10 Percent of DACA Recipients Are LGBT
A recent survey published by The Las Vegas Sun found that, of all undocumented immigrants who benefit from DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), 10 percent identify themselves as members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. Tom K. Wong of the University of California, San Diego conducted the study, in conjunction with the following organizations: the Center for American Progress, the National Immigration Law Center, and United We Dream.

The Department of Homeland Security Starts Analyzing Immigrants’ Social Media Accounts
On September 18, 2017, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) published a new rule in the Federal Register that will allow officials to start collecting social media data from immigrants. The new rule took effect on October 18, 2017, and will apply to all immigrants, including legal permanent residents, naturalized citizens, and green card holders.

President Trump's List of Demands in Exchange for DACA Support
The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program has been in jeopardy since President Trump announced on September 5, 2017, that he was terminating the program. Mr. Trump stated that he was giving Congress a six-month period to make DACA a legal protection before he starts to phase it out. DACA has protected nearly 800,000 undocumented young immigrants since President Obama first ordered the program in 2012.

Transgendered Guatemalan Woman Successfully Obtains Asylum in the U.S.
The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), under the auspices of its Southeast Immigrant Freedom Initiative (SIFI), recently announced that the organization was able to obtain asylum for a transgendered woman who was fleeing her native country of Guatemala. She said she had been targeted by both the police and drug cartels because of her gender identity.
