November is National Alzheimer's Disease and Caregivers Awareness Month

November was designated as National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month by President Ronald Reagan in 1983. Since then, the recognition was enhanced to also honor the Caregivers who aid Alzheimer’s patients. In honor of this national event, Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center, Inc. (ADRC) is reminding everyone that nearly 60,000 Long Islanders suffer from the disease each day.

Executive Director and CEO Recognized as a Health Care Hero

Long Island Business News (LIBN) recognized ADRC Executive Director and CEO Mary Ann Malack-Ragona for her community outreach efforts as part of the publication’s annual Health Care Heroes Awards. Ms. Malack-Ragona was presented with the Community Outreach Hero award, which applauds her significant contributions in the field, during a ceremony at Crest Hollow Country Club on Thursday, November 5.

2015 East End Walk and Fall Festival Hits Record-Breaking Numbers

On October 17, ADRC hosted its Fourth Annual East End Walk for Alzheimer’s and Fall Festival in Westhampton Beach. Thirty-two teams and 376 individuals came out in support of Alzheimer’s research and awareness.

Project Lifesaver Locates Wandering Alzheimer's Patients

ADRC has been working with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office in dealing with wandering adults with dementia as part of the Project Lifesaver program. A non-profit organization, Project Lifesaver aims to increase the location and recovery rate for those who wander off due to Alzheimer’s, dementia, Down syndrome, autism and other related cognitive conditions.
