The Toll of Alzheimer’s Disease is Carried on the Shoulders of Women

A recent Emory University study showed that women are not only at greater risk for developing Alzheimer's, but they also bear six times the cost of care-giving for a loved one with Alzheimer's as compared to men. The study is the first of its kind to document the disparate economic impact of Alzheimer’s on women as both patients and caregivers.

Get Ready for National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness and Caregivers Month

November was designated as National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month by President Ronald Reagan in 1983. Since then, the recognition was enhanced to also honor the Caregivers who aid Alzheimer’s patients. In honor of this national event, Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center, Inc. (ADRC) is reminding everyone that nearly six million Long Islanders suffer from the disease each day.
