In honor of National Pet Week, Central Veterinary Associates, P.C. ― along with the Bayside Animal Clinic, the Terrace Animal Clinic in Great Neck and the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation ― is offering a low-cost microchip clinic at the "Pets & Pals Party" that will be held at Alley Pond Park on May 15 from noon to 3 p.m. The park is located at 76th Avenue (off Springfield Boulevard) in Douglaston, Queens.

Free Rabies Vaccines at Pet Works

As a public service, Central Veterinary Associates, P.C. will be offering rabies vaccines free of charge for pets at Pet Works on May 22 from noon to 5 p.m. The store is located at 605 Rockaway Turnpike in Lawrence.

According to the Mayo Clinic, rabies is a deadly virus that is transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected animal. The most recent case of rabies on Long Island was discovered in January 2009 when a raccoon was confirmed to have the virus. Last year, the New York City Health Department’s Bureau of Communicable Diseases confirmed two cases of rabies in Queens County: a raccoon on September 28, 2010 off the Cross Island Parkway and an opossum on October 15, 2010 on the corner of 54th Avenue and Justice Avenue.

Central Veterinary Associates Takes Care of "Mr. Popper's Penguins"

Veterinarians Performed Weaning, Routine Health Screenings on Penguins during Filming

Central Veterinary Associates, P.C. announced that it recently completed caring for a group of penguins that were used in the making of Jim Carrey's latest film "Mr. Popper's Penguins," which is scheduled to be released on June 17. The penguins were cared for by Dr. Ernest Vine, Practitioner of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. John Charos, Director of Avian and Exotics Medicine, and Dr. Laura Gorman, Associate Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, during the five months of filming. They were responsible for checking the penguins' health status and preparing them for the transition to a saltwater environment.
