Long-Term Care for Traumatic Brain Injuries Can Be Costly
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) are the cause of 50,000 deaths and 282,000 hospitalizations each year. A TBI occurs when the skull is penetrated from a blow to the head. Currently, the two leading causes of TBIs are slip and falls and motor vehicle crashes. Slip and falls account for 40% of all TBIs. Motor vehicle crashes account for approximately 14% of TBI deaths.

On average, a TBI can result in a person being hospitalized for up to two weeks, depending on the severity of the injury. The signs and symptoms of a TBI range in severity. Some of these symptoms include:

  • Sudden Amnesia
  • The Inability to Speak or Understand
  • Slurred or Delayed Speech
  • Confusion
  • Difficulty Focusing
  • Sudden Aggression
  • Irritability
  • Loss of Balance
  • Blackout
  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue
  • Fainting
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Sensitivity to Light and Sound
  • Headache
  • Blurred Vision
  • Ringing In Ears
  • Bleeding From Nose or Ears
  • Seizures

The length of recovery time is dependent upon the severity of the TBI. While some individuals may require a weeklong recovery process, others may need to receive costly life long treatments. Usually, TBIs happen as a result of negligence, which is a person’s failure to exercise reasonable care. If you or a loved one has suffered from a TBI as a result of someone else’s negligence, contact an experienced attorney who may assist you with receiving the compensation the law provides. If you or a loved one has suffered a traumatic brain injury or another serious injury as the result of a motor vehicle crash, slip and fall, or another incident, contact Grover & Fensterstock P.C. at 1-866-99-LAWYER for a consultation today.
