Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center, Inc. Hosts Polynesian-Themed 2015 West End Walk for Alzheimer’s
Bay Shore, NY - Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center, Inc. (ADRC) is hosting its 2015 West End Walk for Alzheimer’s, with a Polynesian-inspired festival to follow, on Sunday, August 9. This 5K and festival will be held rain or shine at the Old Bethpage Village Restoration, located at 1303 Round Swamp Road, Old Bethpage, New York. Pre-registration for the event is now open to all teams or individuals; on-site registration is available.
The USO Liberty Bells will perform during the opening ceremonies, which start at 10 a.m. The ribbon cutting ceremony and kick-off for the walk will take place at 11 a.m. From there, participants will have the opportunity to tour the grounds and see some of the area’s historically preserved buildings along the way. All participants who raise $25 or more are invited to a Polynesian Festival, with raffles and live entertainment from the June Clare Dancers and the Polynesian Dance Troupe, which begins at 12 p.m.
Walkers who raise $100 or more will also be presented with a 2015 Walk T-shirt and tote. Current and potential teams and individuals are encouraged to continue to raise money for the cause, all of which will go to ADRC for Alzheimer’s research and care.
For teams and individuals who would like to sign up on the day of the event, registration is $25 per adult, $15 for teens age 13 to 18 and $10 for children age two to 12. Children under two are free. A family registration package (two children, two adults) is also available for $35.
“This is a fun and easy opportunity for families to participate in a healthy activity, while also helping raise money and promote awareness about Alzheimer’s disease here on Long Island,” says Mary Ann Malack-Ragona, Executive Director/CEO, Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center, Inc. “It is important that we continue to fund research that will enable better treatments so we can start fighting back and move a step closer to our vision of a future free from Alzheimer’s.”
