The Hotaling Group Urges Younger Generations to Secure Policies during Life Insurance Awareness Month (LIAM)
New York, New York — In support of Life Insurance Awareness Month (LIAM), which is recognized annually each September through the nonprofit organization Life Happens, The Hotaling Group is encouraging everyone to evaluate their current policies. As part of a study published earlier this year, the organization found that more than 40 percent of Americans do not have life insurance, the majority of which are age 50 or younger.
The study also determined that cost is the main reason Americans do not purchase life insurance, though 80 percent of consumers actually misjudge term life rates, with Millennials (age 18 to 34) overestimating by 213 percent and Generation Xers (age 35 to 50) calculating more than 120 percent above current rates. These groups are instead opting to spend their money on more extravagant purchases, such as international vacations. The study also found that nearly one-third of Americans believe they need more life insurance and more than 40 percent say they would feel a financial impact within six months if the primary wage earner died.
“As a result of these numbers, we aim to alert all Americans to the importance of holding a life insurance policy,” says Bobby Hotaling, President and CEO of the Hotaling Group. “This essential financial tool is used not only to protect surviving family members after a person passes, but also to help build assets and assist with lifetime finances.”
Some of the major benefits of a life insurance policy include help paying off debt and having the means to cover end-of-life care. There are several different types of policies that people of all ages should consider, including term, whole, universal and indexed universal life insurance, as well as survivorship and annuities insurance.
In recognition of the movement, The Hotaling Group is participating in Hearsay Social, from PennMutual. These Facebook and LinkedIn campaigns will enable the group to promote its variety of life insurance offerings, and information regarding what may be best for each generation, directly to its followers.
