Long Island-Based Pediatric Doctor Launches Big Bang Naturals
Oct. 23, 2013 - PORT JEFFERSON, N.Y. -- PORT JEFFERSON STATION, NY – As a father of four and a holistic, pediatric chiropractor, Dr. Jason Jampol became extremely dismayed by the number of unhealthy beverages touting themselves as “performance water.” When shopping for drinks with his children, he found the majority of them to be full of chemicals, preservatives, and both artificial colors and sweeteners. “How could anyone ‘perform’ when weighed down by such unhealthy ingredients – let alone children?” he wondered.
With that in mind, Dr. Jampol decided to take matters into his own hands and recently launched “Big Bang Naturals (http://bigbangbeverages.com/).” The great tasting, electrolyte-based water is colored by fruit and vegetable extracts, uses only organic sweeteners and flavors, and contains just one gram of organic sugar per serving. What won’t you find in Big Bang Naturals? Synthetic dyes, artificial sweeteners, toxic preservatives, caffeine or stimulants — no artificial anything.
“While attending one of my children’s sporting events, I decided I couldn’t stand the sight of another five-year-old with a blue mouth, stained from artificial coloring or another kid carrying around a ‘performance’drink packed with tons of sugar and toxic chemicals,” says Dr. Jampol. “With the options that are readily available, it’s not easy to raise a healthy child in this day and age.”
The beverage, which comes in Blue Barracuda (blue raspberry, pictured), Fruit Punch U-Out (fruit punch), and Orange Animal (orange), retails for $2.00 and contains only five calories per serving. The full list of ingredients includes Water, Organic Dextrose, Organic Flavors, Citric Acid, Fruit and Vegetable Extract (for color), Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Magnesium Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Sea Salt, and Organic Stevia Rebiana Extract. Currently available online and in select stores in both Nassau and Suffolk Counties, creating the Long Island-based product is actually a national operation, with bottlers in New Jersey, research and development in California, and a warehouse in Hauppauge.
“It’s probably not the easiest way to create and sell a product,” concedes Dr. Jampol, “but that wasn’t what was important to me. What was important to me was developing a healthy sports drink that will replenish both children and adults and that people can feel good about drinking and allowing their children to drink.”
Dr. Jampol hopes Big Bang Naturals becomes not only the alternative to other sports drinks on the market, but sodas and diet sodas as well. “Sugar, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Crystalline Fructose, and the like can contribute to obesity and diabetes in children. Our drinks are sweetened with one gram of organic sugar and a small amount of Stevia Rebania Extract, which is derived naturally from the Stevia plant. It’s much sweeter than regular sugar and you don’t need a lot of it to sweeten a product. But the biggest reason we use it is that it has a negligible effect on blood glucose levels.”
With childhood obesity on the rise, Dr. Jampol hopes local parents take note of his product. “I wanted something better for my kids and their friends,” says Dr. Jampol. “By providing a good-tasting, wholesome option, I hope children and parents will feel better armed when bombarded by commercials and marketing campaigns promoting unhealthy products.”
