McPeak’s Provides Affordable Options for Families Seeking Care for Their Loved Ones

Monday, April 20, 2015

Patchogue, NY— McPeak’s Assisted Living is advising families seeking options for elder care to consider an assisted living facility based on findings from Genworth’s 2015 Cost of Care Survey.

Here on Long Island, the average cost of an assisted living facility is $67,500 a year, according to Genworth. The price has grown at a compound annual rate of 8% over five years; however, it is less than half that of nursing home care ($155,125 for a semi-private room, $162,425 for a private room). While home care and adult day care may be less expensive, they do not provide around-the-clock service, which assisted living facilities provide.

Assisted living gives residents the option of either having their own rooms or sharing a room with someone else. Trained, experienced staff members are on hand to provide medications for residents when needed. Meals are served daily, and staff can prepare meals for those who have certain dietary restrictions. In addition, many facilities have recreational activities to give residents a chance to socialize and spend time with each other.

Assisted living facilities are often seen as a viable option for elderly relatives who need help with the most basic activities of daily living and for those who may be experiencing debilitating diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease. According to the Assisted Living Federation of America, there are 31,000 assisted living facilities serving approximately 1 million seniors nationwide.

“At McPeak’s Assisted Living, we understand the needs of the elderly and offer a friendly, affordable alternative to living alone by providing a safe, warm and relaxing environment in a homelike setting,” said James McPeak, Owner, McPeak’s Assisted Living.
