SBPLI -- Junior FIRST® LEGO League Expo
[Kings Park, NY] — School-Business Partnerships of Long Island, Inc. (SBPLI) has announced that the Junior FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) LEGO League (Jr. FLL) Expo will take place at Longwood High School, located at 100 Longwood Road in Middle Island. The event is being sponsored by SBPLI and the Longwood Central School District.
Thirty teams from Long Island will compete . This year’s challenge is THINK TANKSM, in which children will take a closer look at where and how learning happens every day. While exploring this theme, teams will learn about simple machines as they build a model made of LEGO elements with a motorized part. They will also learn to present information through a Show-Me Poster. Throughout their experience, teams will operate under Jr. FLL’s signature set of Core Values.
Focused on building an interest in science and engineering, Junior FIRST LEGO League is a hands-on program designed to capture young children’s inherent curiosity and direct it toward discovering the possibilities of improving the world around them. Just like FLL, this program features a real-world challenge, to be solved by research, critical thinking and imagination. This year, over 26,000 children ages six to nine from 14 countries will take part in the Jr. FLL challenge.
In the event of inclement weather, the events will be rescheduled for March 8. For more information, visit www.sbpli.org.
