Star Island Yacht Club & Marina Reschedules Seventh Annual Striped Bass Tournament in Anticipation of Hurricane Matthew
Montauk, New York — Star Island Yacht Club & Marina has rescheduled its Seventh Annual Striped Bass Tournament in anticipation of Hurricane Matthew, which yesterday made landfall in Haiti as a Category 4 storm with maximum sustained winds of 145 miles per hour. Determined to be the most powerful storm in the Atlantic since 2007, Matthew’s potential impact on the United States is still being evaluated.
In an effort to protect its anglers from any potential dangers at sea, Star Island Yacht Club & Marina has rescheduled the Seventh Annual Striped Bass Tournament. The Captain’s Meeting will now be held on Friday, October 14 and fishing will take place on Saturday, October 15.
“With the well-known risks associated with the residual hurricane effects in the ocean, we decided that rescheduling this long-running event is the best way to ensure the safety of all anglers,” says Ben Mahler, General Manager, Star Island Yacht Club & Marina. “We hope that all of our fishermen will still be able to join us next weekend, for what is sure to be a great event!”
