Marianna Buffolino Announces the Launch of Her Sophomore Novel, Condemned

Author Marianna Buffolino has announced the launch of her sophomore novel, Condemned, set to be released on February 14. Following the success of her debut novel, Fallacy: Entangled, Mrs. Buffolino returns with another gripping tale of mafia intrigue, forbidden love and the complexities of familial ties.

Condemned takes place in the gritty streets of Chicago, where protagonist Bethany finds herself trapped in a web of family obligations and forbidden desires. As part of the DeCarlo family, Bethany’s life is intricately tied to the machinations of her brother, Luca, a character beloved by fans of Mrs. Buffolino’s earlier work. However, when an arranged marriage causes Bethany to rebel, she forms a forbidden romance with Emilio, Luca’s consigliere, teetering on the edge of a dangerous precipice.

While Condemned serves as a spin-off from Mrs. Buffolino’s debut novel, Fallacy: Entangled, it stands as its own compelling read. Whether readers are returning to Mrs. Buffolino’s storytelling or reading for the first time, Condemned promises to deliver an unforgettable literary journey.

“I’m thrilled to finally share this story,” Mrs. Buffolino says. “I’ve been working on Condemned for a while now, and I can’t wait to take readers along on this journey with me.”

Condemned is scheduled for release on February 14th, just in time for Valentine’s Day. Readers can pre-order their copies now on Amazon.

FIRSTⓇ Long Island Kicks Off 2024 Robotics Season with Distribution of Kits of Parts

Matthew Corrigan, Team Mentor, Great Neck South High School Team #2638 “Rebel Robotics,” posing with CRESCENDO Kit of Parts at KoP Kickoff January 6.

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Long Island kicked off the beginning of the 2024 robotics season with the distribution of Kits of Parts (KoP) to participating local high school robotics teams on January 6. The KoPs were distributed at Schenck USA Corporation in Deer Park, which has been a long standing sponsor of the FIRSTLong Island Regional Robotics Competition and supplier of parts for the robotics teams.

The event saw mentors and members of various high school robotics teams coming to receive their KoPs after being briefed on this year’s challenge.

The KoPs serve as a foundation for participating teams, providing an array of components donated by suppliers across multiple industries. These kits play a pivotal role in shaping the creative process for the teams as they prepare for the upcoming robotics season.

The 2024 FIRSTLong Island Regional is scheduled to take place at Hofstra University from March 21-23. This is a milestone year in that this will be the 25th year of the FIRST Long Island Regional. The theme for this year’s challenge is CRESCENDO presented by Haas. In CRESCENDO, two alliances of three teams compete in a dynamic game where they aim to score or play notes across three field elements.

The objectives include amplifying speakers, getting on stage, harmonizing, and taking the spotlight within a limited time. Additional rewards are earned for meeting specific scoring thresholds and cooperating with opponents. Robots start autonomously in their alliance’s zone, playing preloaded notes and collecting more. During driver control, alliances strategically collect and play notes, amplifying speakers for extra points. Cooperative actions in the first 45 seconds influence rankings. As time runs out, robots race to get on stage, deliver notes, and achieve harmony for bonus points. The alliance with the highest score wins.

“We are thrilled to kick off the 2024 robotics season with the distribution of Kits of Parts,” said Bertram Dittmar, Executive Director, FIRSTLong Island. “We look forward to witnessing the incredible creations that these talented students will bring to the competition and bring with them their solutions, teamwork and gracious professionalism.”

Christmas Comes Early for Three Local Female War Veterans and Their Families

Received Transfer of Ownership of These Homes, Courtesy of the Village of Islandia and Creation Equity

On December 20, the Village of Islandia and Creation Equity transferred the keys and deeds to three female war veterans — Melissa Pandolf, Sabrina Lacy and Catherine Doherty — and their families at a special ceremony that took place at the Col. Francis S. Midura Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #12144 in Islandia.

The selection of who would receive these homes was based on the need for the often overlooked community of female veterans. Creation Equity donated and rehabilitated these properties.

“These veterans served our country and I’m pleased that we were able to work with Creation Equity to thank them for their service and have a positive impact on their lives,” Allan M. Dorman, Mayor, Village of Islandia, said. “We would like to thank Creation Equity for their assistance in providing these veterans a home, just in time for Christmas.”

Huntington Republican Committee Partners with Family Service League for Its Third Annual Winter Coat Drive

The Huntington Republican Committee has announced that its third annual Winter Coat Drive is currently underway and, this year, it is partnering with the Family Service League (FSL), where the coats will be distributed to those in need.

In addition to men’s and women’s coats, they are requesting new and slightly used gloves, mittens, boots and scarves. All donations may be brought to Huntington GOP headquarters, located at 690 New York Avenue in Huntington, Monday through Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. Last year’s drive was very successful, with 100 coats being collected.

Founded in Huntington in 1926, FSL delivers tangible help and crisis intervention across a spectrum of service areas, including mental health counseling, addiction prevention and treatment, homelessness, job training, trauma counseling, early education, and family and senior support services. In all, FSL offers over 60 programs at 20 locations throughout Long Island.

“In the short amount of time that we started this, it has become bigger and bigger,” said Tom McNally, Chairman, Huntington GOP. “We have seen a growing need for these items as the winter weather approaches, but we have been able to meet those needs, thanks to the generosity of the local residents.”

“Unfortunately, warm coats are a luxury for some children and adults residing in Greater Huntington,” said Karen Boorshtein, LCSW, President/CEO, Family Service League. “We appreciate the efforts of Huntington Republican Party Chairman Thomas McNally to help us provide winter coats for those in need. The new and gently used coats being collected during the GOP’s coat drive will be given out to community members who utilize the programs at Family Service League’s Huntington Family Center and to those individuals residing in our shelters.”

Donations will be accepted until March 23, 2024. To learn more about the Family Service League, visit www.FSL-LI.org. For more information about the Winter Coat Drive, call (631) 549-6800, email HQ@huntingtongop.org or visit www.huntingtongop.org.
